The Mr. T Experience – Can't Get There from Here (R.E.M. cover) Lyrics
| 21 years ago
|
this is a cover, it's originally by R.E.M. the original lyrics are extremely hard to understand, like all early R.E.M. songs, so i think the story goes that Dr. Frank just made them or made them sound similar to the best of his ability. i think it's a great tongue-in-cheek way to honor R.E.M. |

Letters to Cleo – Jennifer Lyrics
|
i heard a radio interview a thousand years ago about this song; it was about one night when some of the band members were awake really late, and there was a guy banging on the door of a nearby apartment. he was yelling "Jennifer" over and over and begging to be let in, and saying the kind of stuff that's in the lyrics of the song. i like that they turned a funny story like that into a song. |

OK Go – Get Over It Lyrics
|
anyone who's never seen OK Go live needs to do so before they ever listen to the studio stuff again. this band has one of the most incredible live presences...i might not like this stuff the first time around if i didn't have the memory of those amazing shows...so that's my advice to you. |

Reggie and the Full Effect – Everything's Okay Lyrics
| 21 years ago
|
this song is so fun, it reminds me of when i was in a tight group of 6 friends for an amazing summer...we hung out at an arcade called Pinball Pete's and my friend Dave liked driving my car...i love the line about hanging out cheap and eating ramen noodles. the whole song is bouncy and cheesy like me! |

Reggie and the Full Effect – Ode to Manheim Steamroller Lyrics
| 21 years ago
|
i always call this the "nintendo song," because the beginning reminds me of an old video game. it's strange how the song is either lamenting a love lost, or trying to persuade that person to come back, but it's so upbeat. i guess it can be happily reflecting on the relationship or its uniqueness. it's an adorable song and it's one of my most favorites. |

The Mr. T Experience – We're Not No One Lyrics
| 22 years ago
|
this is about two people who feel put down or held back in life, but their love makes them strong and feel like somebody instead of nobody. it reminds me of a relationship i was in where there was a scandalous age difference and everyone was down on us, but we were a great couple...plus he was always worried about his hair, so the line about your hair looking great just makes it ours. :) |

Flogging Molly – The Ol' Beggars Bush Lyrics
| 22 years ago
|
haha, i knew someone would think that was "Cobain." you don't have to think very long to realize it can't be...i figured Killer Kolbain was maybe a guy who beat him up in high school, or something to that effect.
upon closer inspection, a lot of these lyrics are wrong. i'm going to post correct ones. |

Flogging Molly – Devil's Dance Floor Lyrics
| 22 years ago
|
the lyrics are "swing a little more, a little more o'er the merry-o." they're easily confused what with the Irish accent, but these are the correct ones.
this song makes me want to take Irish dancing lessons. plus, maybe the know what the hell a merry-o is or how to get over it. |

Flogging Molly – Cruel Mistress Lyrics
|
I'm quite sure that the line is "out to sea," and not "out to see," considering it's one of their signature Irish Sea Songs. it took me a while to get used to someone else on vocals, but this song grows on me more and more. there's something strangely appealing about the words "belly of a squid." |

The Rentals – Please Let That Be You Lyrics

it sounds like somebody locked up in some sort of institution...but with this side note of their soulmate or true love. maybe this person is stuck in this cold environment and just dreams of contact with something loving all the time...that's the best i can figure, but i loooove this song. i wish i could be a keyboard and make those sounds. |

They Might Be Giants – Destination Moon Lyrics

actually...i think it's "official" instead of "initial." i dunno. and also, i'm pretty sure it's "before i blow you away" and not "but for." but i could be wrong. |

it should be noted that this is a cover song...but it's one damn good cover. this song has such a soaring energy, it's impossible not to rock out to this one and feel smiley. |

Weston – Heartbreak Sandwich Lyrics
|
this sounds to me like the guy in the song's girlfriend left for college, and in the excitement of her new life didn't find time to keep in touch, which he's bitter about. but because he was so hurt, when she did come home for some solace, he hurt her back, and now may regret it. he knows he'll pine for her for a long time, but he love her enough to not want her to feel tied to him because of that. he's trying to let her go have her new life, and figure his way out through his life without her. |

R.E.M. – Let Me In Lyrics

i'm not sure if this song is about Kurt Cobain, but i know there's a definite association between it and him. on the Monster Tour, everyone switched instruments for this song, and Michael Stipe played a guitar that Kurt was once Kurt's. |

R.E.M. – Try Not To Breathe Lyrics
|
this song is from the point of view of an aging woman, who wants to die while she is still functioning and her family remembers her in a happy way. she laments that people think she's insane to want to end her life, but she believes it's her choice to make, and feels strongly about ending it at the right time for her. |

R.E.M. – Me In Honey Lyrics
|
this song is supposed to be about a guy whose girlfriend is pregnant and doesn't want to keep the baby. it's from the guy's point of view; saying it's just as much his baby and that she can share the burden and shame or whatever she feels with him, because feeling like being a father is making him feel wonderful, even if the baby was unplanned. on that note, i believe the lyrics are "let me love what it's doing to me." i think the guy in the song feels like he may not have much of a say, because it's her body, and he's afraid to ask her to consider him and his part in the whole thing, although he feels strongly about it. |

R.E.M. – Near Wild Heaven Lyrics

i adore the style of this song, how happy it sounds (even though the lyrics are forboding). the sound of the song was meant to pay homage to the Beach Boys. |

The Mr. T Experience – Alternative Is Here To Stay Lyrics
| 22 years ago
|
this is a clever song making fun of namely alternative, but any music trend that thinks it's different from the rest, and the kids who live by that philosophy. i love when Dr. Frank pokes fun with his lyrics (which he usually does), he's so suave about being snotty. |

Flogging Molly – What's Left Of The Flag Lyrics
| 22 years ago
|
he does that bit at every show, and I don't think arguing about it is in the spirit of the message. it's a wonderful and meaningful song, showing the reverance Dave King has for his late father, and letting on what it's like to grow up in a war-torn country. of course it's a common theme in their songs, but I find this one especially touching. to repeat what i've heard him say at three different performances: whether your flag is red, white, blue; orange, white, or green, the only color that matters is the color of freedom. |

They Might Be Giants – Aka Driver Lyrics

|
interesting story about this song: of course they wanted to call it Nyquil Driver, but they could get sued for printing the name without permission and associating it with the band, so they called it AKA Driver instead. which makes me wonder...could Nyquil take action for the lyrics' being printed here? |

They Might Be Giants – I Should Be Allowed To Think Lyrics
| 22 years ago
|
this is such a wonderful teen angst anthem, and not in an annoying way. things like gluing your poster to a wall make perfect sense to someone who's young and feels like it's their personal space, but are automatically shot down by parents and other adults. it gives examples of a lot of things that frustrates young people and speaks to them with that kind of passion. i say this about almost every TMBG song, haha, but this one truly is one of the best. |

They Might Be Giants – They'll Need A Crane Lyrics
| 22 years ago
|
to me, this is about a break up, or pending break up, of a couple who's become pathetic. they're complacent and out of love, but their lives are built around each other and it'll take a force like a crane to break that structure. he's tired of it and she's turned to drinking, they're both depressed and need a change but they don't know where to begin. this is one of my favorite break up songs, and TMBG songs. |

The Plus Ones – You've Been Had Lyrics
|
this song sounds awfully sassy to me, but it's my favorite Plus Ones song. it sounds like this girl gets talked into sleeping with conniving boys all the time, and the guy in the song went after her for that reason and found out it's true, and he doesn't care because it works out in his favore. naughty naughty on his part, i can only hope this isn't an autobiographical one! it's still cathy as fuck though, i'll never get sick of it. |

Ultimate Fakebook – Tell Me What You Want Lyrics

this song makes me want to BE the girl he's singing about. they're probably the most romantic lyrics i've ever heard. such a vivid picture of a magical summer night, the kind that makes you feel like it's been 3 days since yesterday, just from being around someone you think is incredible. |

Ultimate Fakebook – Roll (electric Kissing Parties Pt. 1) Lyrics

a feeling any child of the 80's can relate to...being at the roller rink, wanting so badly to couple skate with a boy or girl you don't even really know but you're sooo in love with them...he tells the girl's best friend that he likes her, and the friend tells him that the girl likes him back, which is why he says not to "kill her." i love the way he captures the feeling of being so nervous and excited and feeling pathetic but a little bit hopeful. |

Ultimate Fakebook – Real Drums Lyrics

this is another song about UFB's beloved metal changing and selling out...saying their rock heros were regular people who used real instruments, instead of over-producing and creating music on a machine, and caring more about image than integrity. this is a running theme on both albums, if you pay attention. |

Ultimate Fakebook – All The New Poisons Lyrics
| 22 years ago
|
it sounds like this is about getting irritated at fads replacing what you held dear, or even the things you love turning into fads. it's saying the music that really matters and is well-made will always prevail, even if only in the hearts of fans. and that people who truly care about the music won't get upset when fad followers scoff them for hanging on to something older, because it won't matter to them. |

Ozma – The Ups and Downs Lyrics

i agree with the above, plus the stuff in the beginning. to me, it means that even though they're broken up, he still feels her in everything he does. and that he can't stop thinking and daydreaming about her, since the break up "woke him up," like a snap into reality. and that since she spoke up (which i take to mean she broke up with him), he shut off his ears and won't listen b/c it hurts too much. |

Ozma – Iceland Lyrics

i loooove this one, with the haunting wa-wa effect. to me, it's about trying to get over someone, and being almost there, but there's just this thing inside that won't let you get all the way. and that person is done with you, or doesn't care how you feel, but you wonder if really they're still attached somewhere deep inside too. |

Ozma – Flight Of The Bootymaster Lyrics
|
this sounds like how i feel about my old best friend...about realizing i could never count on him ("you could never be more than deceiving") and about learning to not dwell on missing him ("now i'm not thinking things about you.") but mostly the line about the things you never say...such a keen observation. as many things as he said that drove me crazy, it drove me MORE crazy that he DIDN'T say how much i meant to him...then in the end how i won't regret calling him out on it after we fell out, and how it's okay to let it go and see him as a part of the past that wasn't meant to last forever.
i adore the keyboard part, and it makes the song fun, so that feeling these things can be positive and not totally bitter. |
