Hozier – Take Me to Church Lyrics 1 year ago
I like your interpretation. It fits, and it beats mine... I thought it was about heroin . I think 50% of all songs are about drugs, 45% are about sex and relationships, and the other 5% are about random events .

???????
Why do you capitalize words which aren't proper nouns , right in the middle of a sentence...
Your interpretation took much work to come up with ... Do you honestly think that Hozier would have penned something so complicated to grasp the meaning of?
Everyone over thinks this song.. but at least they're thinking .

My mom used to think that this song was about a woman watching police drag a lake while she's filing her nails.. I think the song is ambiguous, be sure there used to be an old TV show called "The Detectives", so, it could also mean she's watching the TV the whole time while he's watching her. The scenes described in the song "beat him until the teardrops start" could be a scene on the TV show.. It's anybody's guess...

High Highs – Open Season Lyrics 1 year ago
I take this song to mean that a cetrain female he knows is unstable, running around, rootless, getting high with anybody and everybody, and turning dates with people she calls "friends"..
Telling her to get on her knees in the fire, refers to asking for help in the form of some prayer to take her away from all the hot mess of drugs, homelessness, tricking... Be humble and start having a direction, something to believe in The way she perceives herself is all in her mind,. She can change the way she sees herself in order to leave that life behind .
In reference to looking at the trees, they are standing tall and strong, and they shed their leaves, always changing, leaving the old behind and starting anew.. leaves they have shed off refers to her situation, let it go, let it leave you like a leaf on a tree..
That's my take of the song

Hooverphonic – 2Wicky Lyrics 1 year ago
I don't have any insight on this song, but I will share my observances; in the background, there are Latin words being said, and they sound, for all the world, satanic.....
This song was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. I don't picture them penning a song brimming with innuendo and metaphors, .... their style of writing is straight forward and non-pretentious. Other songs by B&D 1.Close To You,
2.Look Of Love,
3.This Guy's In Love With You
4. Walk On By.....

I think this song could be about his disillusionment with God. He is so resentful of Him, he doesn't use the word Father to refer to God. He uses the word "Mother" maybe like mother f----r, or maybe not to give God the respect of Father, so it"s Mother,Idk. This song is tricky.

I think you and I are possibly a handful of altruistic followers of Song Meanings? I just realized all these nonsensical versions of song meanings are mocking the followers and the site itself. I love to decipher song meanings. Thee people are trolls. They make sarcastic, sardonic comments everywhere they go. These people must be the YahooAnswers castaways. It really is not funny to diminish someone else's oasis. I know I'm not wrong. I believe my senses.

Most everyone here is inserting their own life experiences or the plot from a movie or TV show, or believing the literal explanations of others.
Feel the music. Leave yourself behind, and hang on every word in the song. Try to put together a cohesive mental picture with lyrics.
Do you think a hooker would date someone with eyes burning, shaking, signs of AIDS? She's trying to stay alive to work another day, plus it doesn't have any synchronicity.

Genesis – Mama Lyrics 3 years ago
I can't see you mama
but I can hardly wait
ooh to touch and to feel you mama
oh I just can't keep away
in the heat and the steam of the city
oh its got me running and I just can't brake
so say you'll help me mama
cos its getting so hard - oh
This is him thinking about that heavenly cheva and the initial euphoria when you get the vein.. He can't quit. The city is a jungle and he's ripping and runnin. He is in the thick of it.

Now I can't keep you mama
but I know you're always there
you listen, you teach me mama
and I know inside you care
so get down, down here beside me
oh you ain't going nowhere
no I won't hurt you mama
but its getting so hard - oh

He knows he will eventually, inevitably, be sick. He can't keep her, the well feeling and nirvana he derives from using. You listen you teach me mama /how to be on the streets hustling getting your shit how to be a junkie. Maneuvering, surviving, hardening your heart.
Get down here beside me/people lose the strength in their legs and they fall to the floor or ground when they get their shot. I've never known anyone who can stand after doing it. You just collapse.

Can't you see me here mama
mama mama mama please
can't you feel my heart
can't you feel my heart
can't you feel my heart oh
now listen to me mama
mama mama
you're taking away my last chance
don't take it away
can't you feel my heart

I think he's trying to kick, but the cheva is calling to him. His last chance could mean he thinks about quitting right before he's sick and now he is physically dependant on it again. Every junkie has that moment of clarity where they want to quit.. Can't you feel my heart? I think this could mean he's sick of the life, he is wanting OUT. He's wearing down, he's serious but also hooked.

It's hot, too hot for me mama
but I can hardly wait
my eyes they're burning mama
and I can feel my body shake
don't stop, don't stop me mama
oh make the pain, make it go away - hey
no I won't hurt you mama
but its getting so hard - oh

He is dope sick now. Now he'll do damn near anything to get his lady love back in his veins. I won't hurt you mama/no more thoughts of quitting, no straddling the fence, it's all about the tar now BUT how long can he live this life? He's so gonna die out there. He's willing to do whatever to get it, but it's a tireless loop of one step up, two steps back.

Now I can't see you mama
but I know you're always there
you taunt, you tease me mama
but I never never can keep away
it's the heat and the steam of the city
oh got me running and I just can't brake
so stay don't leave me mama
cos its getting so hard - oh

It's everywhere, someone's got something somewhere, but he can't access it. He sees people on a nod, and he knows what time it is, but he's not nodding with them. Heroin is everywhere in the city except in his veins. How unbearable!!
Frustration, exasperation, condemnation for all those who have and won't kick down.
It's hell on earth to be a heroin addict.

I think it's about a heroin addict, and he is saying
Don't take it away
Can't you feel my heart?
Your heart beats faster when the legs are gone, legs being the length of your heroin ride.
Most music has undercurrents of addiction, drug usage, self- destruction, and hatred, I think. Having adverse life experiences really helps you to understand subtleties and innuendos of music.
Anyway, heroin replaces every single role of everyone in your life. It becomes mother, father, brother, sister, lover, and cousin too. It is wearing off, and he's gonna be sick soon, and have to go through the labyrinth of city scenes and burned out schemes, and nobody is in a rush to do that.

What they say never makes sense. It's bull ????. We the public have to decipher the real meanings; that's why these sites draw so many people to them. We love to figure shiite out, and solve problems.

Christie Brinkley said he was as an asshole, and non-communicative.
"Just because someone pours their heart out into a song doesn't mean they are good communicators at home".
I'll never forget that statement bcuz it's true. Musicians make for silent partners. Artists in general are sullen, withholding, left of center people.I've never met a healthy minded artist. All tortured souls.

Billy Joel is an atheist. He pokes fun and mocks Christianity with the 'rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints' line. He doesn't believe in any form of spirituality or religion or afterlife I guess. This song is his raspberry to religion and I don't listen to it anymore. He's got a real smug look on his face now, real repugnant.

Just because a TV show used a song, doesn't mean there's any relativity between the two. The producers like the harmonies and the melody, so they use it as the theme song or whatever. Many times the two have nothing in common and it ruins the experience for both. Example; Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield came out in '69, but will forever be known as the Exorcist theme, which came out in '73, or 74. The song is creepy, but I don't think Mike Oldfield intended for his song to be linked to The Exorcist, one of the scariest movies in history.
"Don't Fear The Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult was used in The Stand, but DFTR is about suicide. The Stand was about a virus wiping out the world, and good and evil facing off. No suicides, only viral disease and murder

I was thinking it is the bitter, pent up emotions that he can finally, as an adult, feel confident enough to let out, and let her, his mother, have it. What he wanted to say to her, but never could until now because he wanted the words to be just right, as he has no intention of seeing her again.
His mom was probably a narcissistic, selfish woman who gave little comfort to him growing up. Now is his time.
I could be wrong. Mother is a metaphor for alot of things.

I think the song is about meth. "One" doesn't have to be a person. The best meth gives you a feeling of warmth through your body, and it is called "Fire".
He gave it up for whatever reasons, family, career, (two of the best reasons,) and he is being totally disclosing by saying 'the one he loved'. Who doesn't love their drug of choice?
