Amazing talented Ian Curtis wrote this song with a very hidden meaning. After watching the film "control" and listening to this song to many times to count especially peter murphy's version of it. If you haven't heard it please do murphy's voice is amazing. Ian was definetly haunted! In the film control Ian did not have seizures until the girl seeking a job where Ian worked collapsed in front of him of a seizure. Ian stared at the girl and was possessed by the demon of seizure. This is not as far fetched as it sounds. Jesus himself called out a demon of seizure from a possessed boy in the gospels of the new testament. Then come the lyrics which give the tell away "Where figures from the past stand tall And mocking voices ring the halls Imperialistic house of prayer Conquistadors who took their share" Where the figures from the past stand tall are statues in the catholic church, mocking voices ring the halls are the chanting of catholic priests. As stated by jesus himself again " do not pray using vain reptitions" imperialistic house of prayer can be none other than the church itself. Lastly conquistadores who took their share, there would be no catholic church if it were not for the spanish conquistadores who funneled millions possibly billions of dollars worth of gold taken from plundering the new world. The dreams haunting him, the duel personalities and the voices calling him are a battle within him for his soul. A dark and brilliant expression of a tortured possessed man. Calling out for help!
