maybe it's about the fall of communism. this girl is watching everything around her get ruined and defiled. maybe she is communism, as it fell, everything was ruined, you know? since it became obsolete in the span of a short period, the remaining communists "moved around her fist," which could be a metaphor for widespread violence. |

when i first heard this song, i fell in love. i think it is about being in love with your best friend. he loves her too, and he knows he does, but they can't ever be together because... they are friends! bah!

this song is about me. my name is cathy, and i am suicidal.
i think it is about a girl who is very depressed, from a guy who likes her a lot's perspective. this guy is so in love with her image, that he can't even see the real girl behind it, or how much she is hurting, until it is too late. such is often the case in life. also, the girl never really had to deal with her problems on her own, when she was forced to, she couldn't take it. i also think that paul finch is right. it is kinda about mental illness. basically, a girl who couldn't deal with hers and everyone who didn't see it.
i dunno. this song is about me, i swear. all my years of being a fan have finally paid off and Ben wrote a song about me. ha ha. |

this song makes me think about my dad.
my mom always calls me little Philip (which is my dad's name). i think it is about a man who is repeating his father's mistakes, and then is calling his dad a hypocrite when he gets pissed about it. it's also a statement of proof that they really are a lot the same, thus removing justification for his anger... hueoh, too many big words. |

i don't know, but i never really could see some kind of coherent story line, in spite of what i have heard. but... i actually did write a paper on this song (yeah, i know).
anyhow, "so much blood..." is the realization of what he has done. "everything's blue" is about how painful living can be and how life can seem when you are so depressed. also is about how suicide is the only solution. now, the only part i've actually come up with an interestig analysis is "the deepest shade of mushroom blue." you know that when you touch a mushroom, it bruises, and the part where you touched it turns blue? well, it's kind of a metaphor for how the slightest thing you say or do can have a greater effect on someone else than you would even think. like some silly comment could push someone over the edge. |
