Modest Mouse – 3rd Planet Lyrics 22 years ago
i agree with sakebox. i also find the comparison of our blood to an ocean striking. i don't really know why. it's just interesting to think of it that way. an ocean that keeps us all unified. i am fun. wee.

Modest Mouse – Night on the Sun Lyrics 22 years ago
the ending lines to this song are very powerful. "its bound and its willing to explode" i don't know. the lines just get me. the meaning should be pretty obvious.

Operation Ivy – Missionary Lyrics 22 years ago
although i love this whole song, my favorite lines are

"can you see the flag rising up beyond the smoke
of dying authors burning books there was a problem with what they wrote
the flag is hard to read because all flags start to look the same
when covered w/the blood of the faithless and insane"

it's just so unbelievably well worded. every movement that's involved any type of social reform loses total meaning when blood is spilled.

Operation Ivy – Sound System Lyrics 22 years ago
"to resist despair that second makes you see
to resist despair because you cant change everything
to resist despair in this world is what it is to be free"

these have to be some of the best lines i've ever seen anywhere, let alone in great ska music. so true.

Modest Mouse – Dramamine Lyrics 22 years ago
m0rphic is correct in his information. dimenhydrinate is sold in antihistamines and in motion sickness pills (i believe in higher concentration for motion sickness). when taken in large amounts (UNSAFE) it causes hallucinogetic experiences. the whole song seems tripped out. the lines "i can't focus on anything" and "look at your face like you're killed in a dream" both seem to have been influenced by taking the drug. of course, there's probably more to it than that. the line "we kiss on the mouth but still cough down our sleeves" means (to me) that in a relationship, often times the good is shared while the bad is kept hidden, which isn't really the best way to go about it. i don't know. i'm a moron.

NOFX – Love Story Lyrics 22 years ago
i'm with kamikaze fool. this song is awesome. although it may be obvious, i'm going to go ahead and give my interpretation of the song. seems to be a relationship falling apart. i'm guessing "father" shoots himself, judging by a wall stained "thicker than water." i guess slashed wrists could leave a wall bloody, but a self inflicted gun shot wound seems a bit more likely. "i don't want to know, cheat me" seems to be an ignorance is bliss line. the writer would rather be cheated with a happy family image than see that it is falling apart. yeah. i'm a moron.

Neutral Milk Hotel – Little Birds Lyrics 22 years ago
This is a rare neutral milk hotel song that i found out about at a site (http://www.knerd.com/~sashwap/). it's available for download in the sounds page. its only available live as far as i know. jeff offers and explanation before playing, but i feel that there is more to the song. a boy is born into a christian family, and begins doing something that they view wrongfully as evil. the boys father threatens him with the christian concept of "hell." the parts that mention "the burning hell that took your baby brother" seem to be about the boy's brother, who was a homosexual, and commited suicide by jumping from a high place, because his family couldn't accept him. the second last paragraph involves a forced baptism, and the family's strong belief in their holy righteousness. "here beneath the water i can see how the light distorts so strange" may be a reference that through the eyes of a christian, he sees things don't make sense. an ironic reference to suicide and reincarnation by drowning ends the song. i don't mean to offend christians. this is the song as i see it. i apologize for the long entry. by the way, i don't know what i'm talking about.

Neutral Milk Hotel – Two-Headed Boy Pt. 2 Lyrics 22 years ago
song MEANINGS... well... firstly, i don't know what i'm talking about. magnum is very poetic, and very figurative, and i think that songs mean what they mean to the listener. most of the lines i feel are just stream-of-conciousness rants, but the comparison to God being a place, rather than a spiritual being, is signficant. very beautifully put. the last lines of a two headed boy (although it does refer to part 1) could be speaking of a person who has contradictory feelings about a lover. "she is all you could need." tomatos and radio wires... tomatos could mean healthy, good parts of a relationship, whereas radio wires (i would imagine they don't have a good taste) could be the negative aspects, or they could just be figurative for more healthy aspects. "but don't hate her when she gets up to leave" may be a message to not forget everything this person has done for you, regardless of how things end. love never dies.

Neutral Milk Hotel – Communist Daughter Lyrics 22 years ago
as usual, i don't claim to know what i'm talking about, and this song is very figurative and strange. the only lines i can try to decipher are "and wanting something warm and moving...moves herself about her fist." perhaps the writer speaks of a lonliness that someone feels and metaphorically masturbates to prove that she is still a person, still alive, still existing. i don't know.

Neutral Milk Hotel – Someone Is Waiting Lyrics 22 years ago
two lines are missing from these lyrics. "watch them bleeding from your ceiling/as their empty anger falls out from their eyes." i don't claim to know what i'm talking about, but it seems to me as though the writer feels that someone is going to destroy everything good in someone he loves. he wants to protect that person, and help those that would destroy her recognize their faults, which would turn their anger into tears, falling out of their eyes.
